Sorry, but there's really nothing scarier than being cooked alive via high-powered directed energy weaponry. Having your skin boil underneath your armor, heating up, feeling like hot pins are being shoved into every pore... that's scary. A railgun would be far less painful and cruel than a giant microwave cannon.

Ah, but your thinking of a microwave variant of a directed energy weapon. I was thinking more of a directed plasma or laser-light type weapon. Those generally kill quickly(in an era once directed energy and mass drivers are feasible on such a small scale.) And your also thinking of psy warfare along with it. :D
I'm a little old fashioned. :P In all honesty, i see the benefit of energy weapons Better than slug throwers in several situations but a matter of preference.
I think nothing is more terrifying than knowing no matter how much armor plating you have, kinetic energy absorber or energy dispersion plating there is, there is something out there that can send a slug at Mach 4.5. XD

Well I was assuming that anything that would warrant a railgun blast would probably be immune to anything less than a small nuclear blast. Of course using one on the common infantry and tanks would reduce everything to gory chunks the consistency of fine mist. Lasers and plasma though? Ash. Too boring.
